About RitaWriter

I decided to get into blogging after my mother passed away in 2021. That’s when my world came to a standstill. It’s funny, though. In the midst of mourning, there was a stillness. A moment where I was still and quiet, where my mind was still and quiet. Even though I was 49 at the time of her death, I grew up. I matured in my thinking and began to want more for my life than just teaching. It was at this moment when I got the idea of starting a blog.
I wasn’t thinking about creating this blog as a means for passive income. As naive as I was, I didn’t know you could make money blogging because I had not done my research. I decided to start this blog because (a) I love to write and (b) I want to leave a trail, a legacy of my writing pieces behind (for anyone that cares) that will last long after I’m gone.

I don’t consider myself to be an expert writer or author by any means. This blog is riddled with mistakes and that’s not the purpose of this space–to judge and point out errors. The reason why I started “SerenitySoulSpace” was simply to see what I could do. I wanted to step away from what I have always done and am comfortable with and have something of my own.
“Serenity Soul Space Blog” is my personal lifestyle blog where I share anything from current events to my mom’s recipes. Furthermore, as I have gotten older, I have taken a strong interest in skincare for mature skin. Nobody truly knew my mother’s age until she got sick. She always took care of her hair, skin, nails, went to the spa, believed in rest and ate healthy. She raised me to get up, get dressed up, and show up…and don’t show up looking any kind of way. She welcomed aging because she took extremely good care of herself and I can only hope to live as long as she did and do the same.

This blog is my passion. You know you have found your passion when you don’t mind doing what you do. You don’t consider it a task, and you can’t wait to get back to it the next day. I thoroughly enjoy making revisions to this site and adding new articles every day. I can see the growth. People know when they see me on this computer, I’m writing something for this platform.
Over the years, I’ve had to quiet that inner voice of doubt, and it hasn’t been easy. As someone who’s generally shy, the idea of putting my thoughts out there has always felt a bit daunting. But after some reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to embrace this journey and connect with others who share my love for language, learning, and self-expression.
I was born and raised in Louisiana, where the richness of culture, cuisine and storytelling shaped my love for words. It also didn’t hurt that I had two college professors as parents. If I wasn’t surrounded by books and writers at home (which I constantly was), I was definitely surrounded by them on campus. I pretty much grew up on the campus of Grambling State University.
I wanted to go to GSU for college and stay close to home but being a serious violinist at the time, other colleges offered me more scholarship money than GSU so I went out of state. I made my way to Texas, attended and graduated from Baylor University and have called Texas home ever since.
While I still play the violin off and on, my latest love has been “Serenity Soul Space Blog.” My goal is to eventually have guest writers contribute their thoughts and talents to this blog and collaborate with others more. If that is you, let’s connect.
As thoughts arise, I will continue to revise and edit every page and post here. While I do that, I hope you find something that resonates with you.
Thank you for taking the time to read just a little about me.
